Why customers choose Sovereign
While this could be problematic for some companies, Sovereign took it in its stride and the company scoured every available source to get hold of core. Today, Sovereign spends thousands of pounds each month buying it in. “Core is the lifeblood of this business,” says Richard Welland. As a consequence, over 40percent of Sovereign’s programme contains new and OE units. Many cheap and spurious parts from Asia have entered the motor trade in recent years and so the demand for low cost product has ultimately increased – particularly from motor factors – but there is scant regard for a product’s safety and performance capabilities. Welland believes it is therefore the responsibility of Sovereign and others like it to ensure that the parts quality is paramount and that vehicle safety isn’t compromised. “The new units we supply are of OE quality and can be remanufactured if returned as old core,” he says. “Parts and specifications are as per the OE unit and therefore we have no issues including them as part of the Sovereign programme. For the past four years we’ve employed the services of an engineer in Asia – who also works for Siemens. His main objective is to oversee the quality control of our manufacturing partners.” The top 150 units represent more than 74 percent of sales demand and are generally where the customer expects choice. Sovereign can provide excellent value for money across this range giving the distributor the ability to offer choice whilst not reducing margin. With a standard surcharge this range offers the distributor and ideal opportunity to dual stock alongside the OE brand if required. Sovereign’s headquarters in Bognor Regis. The site is a 30,000sqft purpose built facility and allows the company to monitor the entire production process The benefits of Sovereign

In July 2007, Sovereign took a massive step forward by more than doubling its product range. It was on a mission to include every part number for every starter and alternator available in the UK and, in a bold move, a catalogue featuring 2000 part numbers was released to the trade.
